Arsenal scout Jurgen Kost may not be a household name, even among Gunners fans, but he has been mentioned numerous times around the Transfer Tavern this afternoon given his revelation about Besiktas’ Oguzhan Ozyakup.
The Turkish midfielder was a youth player in the north of London but didn’t make the leap to become a senior star before being shipped off to the Istanbul club in 2012, where he has impressed.
Despite his relatively travelled career, Ozyakup remains just 24 and has already been aligned with moves to various big clubs across Europe.
And now Kost, speaking at a football conference at the Arsenal Soccer School in Istanbul, has revealed that the Turkey international is a player they are “closely tracking” and that he is a target they have in mind ahead of plans to bolster their midfield:
“Ozyakup is a player of the highest standard, we have been closely tracking his progress and when we do our next search for players in his position he could return to Arsenal,” he is quoted as saying by Turkish-Football.
Ozyakup played a key role in Besiktas winning the league title last term and is a regular for the Black Eagles, who currently top the table ahead of surprise challengers Istanbul Basaksehir.
