Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking for their next manager and, will be hoping to pip their rivals to the race for the former Barcelona man.

Both London clubs are seemingly going to be looking for a new manager in the near future and our Gunners’ fans playing pool in the back room, are hoping that the board can convince Luis Enrique to come to the Emirates over any potential move to Stamford Bridge.

The former Barcelona chief is currently out of work after leaving the Nou Camp in the summer, and while Arsene Wenger still has just under 18 months left on his extended contract, the urge to get one of the most up and coming managers may be one that they do not want to let them pass by.

Indeed, he’s previously been (per Don Balon via the Daily Express) as a potential future incumbent of the Emirates hot seat and it’s easy to see why.

Chelsea may yet stick it out with Antonio Conte until the end of the season, but our landlord feels that Arsenal can’t let Chelsea get him in the summer and here’s why…

Arsenal, apart from FA Cup wins, have been in a trophy hibernation since 2004, much to the annoyance of the fans in the pub. However, Enrique has a winning mentality stemming from his Barcelona time, as both a player and manager.

Within his first year, he won the treble and followed that up with a double before leaving after a glittering playing career that saw him represent both the Blaugrana and bitter rivals, Real Madrid.

Creating one of the best teams in recent memory at the Camp Nou, the former Roma boss would be a wonderful addition to the Premier League.

Ruthlessness

The Spaniard walked into the Barcelona job and dished out some pretty harsh lesson early doors, albeit for upsetting the squad as he did so. Understood to have fallen out with Xavi upon his appointment, Enrique then turned things around and managed to deliver a stunning treble during his first campaign.

Enrique seems a man not to be messed with, and it’s exactly what Arsenal need as some of the squad as turned stale in comfortable. A jolt out of the blue could turn the Gunners back into the side of the early ’00’s.
