Arsenal stars disagree with big Wenger call for Champions League clash

Arsenal punters in the Transfer Tavern are mystified by the latest developments at the Emirates Stadium ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Arsene Wenger shocked Gunners fans in the Tavern with his decision to drop Alexis Sanchez from the starting line-up for the trip to Anfield last weekend; although the Chile international was brought on at half-time, the north Londoners succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.

And according to Mirror Football, another selection call ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich has left a section of the Arsenal dressing room unconvinced, with goalkeeper David Ospina expected to start in between the sticks.

The Colombian international is a talented shot-stopper but conceded five times in the first leg at the Allianz Arena and it’s claimed a number of Arsenal players believe No.1 Petr Cech should be starting this evening instead.

That’s in no small part due to the veteran goalkeeper’s experience in Europe, having lifted a Champions League title with Chelsea in 2012 and made 120 appearances in continental competitions throughout a trophy-laden career.

The decision to drop Sanchez is said to have divided opinion amongst the Arsenal camp, whilst Cech’s absence against the Bavarians was reportedly seen as a ‘major mistake’ by several Gunners stars.
