Arsenal target posts encouraging transfer update

Fernando Calero

Arsenal go into their game against Liverpool in the midst of an injury crisis and need to add some players next month if they are to have a chance of finishing in the top four come the end of the season.

The Gunners had a tough start to the season but following their losses to Liverpool and Manchester City, Emery’s men put together a run of 22 games unbeaten until they lost to Southampton.

Arsenal then followed their disappointing loss up with a draw against Brighton in a game which they should’ve won. With January coming up, Arsenal will need to strengthen, especially at the back.

The club have been linked with a move for Real Valladolid centreback, Fernando Calero who has posted a picture of himself in London. While it may be clutching at straws, the picture will certainly have Arsenal fans excited for the January transfer window.

The Breakdown

With Rob Holding out for the season and with Shkodran Mustafi also injured, the Gunners are in desperate need of a defender next month. Despite there being a massive improvement in Arsenal’s style of play, Emery’s side has still conceded far too many goals and as it stands they have let in 25 goals, the seventh highest in the league.

Although he only made his debut a year ago, he has been superb for the Valladolid this season and has helped the side to have one of the best defensive records in the league. If the reported £10 million release clause is true, he would be a cheap and shrewd piece of business.
