Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger seems to have reacted to the opening day humiliation at home to Aston Villa by making another move for Transfer Tavern favourite Lars Bender, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Gunners had a ÂŁ19million bid rejected for the Bayer Leverkusen holding midfielder at the star of the summer, but are set to reignite their pursuit in order to appease fan concerns.
The Emirates crowd were in shock yesterday after the Gunners were beaten 3-1 at home by Aston Villa despite going 1-0 up early on.
The lack of discipline in midfield was evident and although going down to ten men in the second half didn’t help, Villa were seemingly outnumbering and outplaying the Gunners engine room.
The talent of Bender would be a welcomed addition to the Londoners’ side who started with main man Santi Cazorla on the bench.
Leverkusen have qualified for the Champions League this season and so the German international is in no rush to leave the club which could result in Arsenal having to bid big money.
The midfield general also has four years remaining on his current deal in the Bundesliga and so any chance of a quick pounce is out of the question with Leverkusen set to demand around ÂŁ30million for their main man.
The Gunners are hoping to strengthen all areas of their side before the window shuts at the start of September but getting players to put pen to paper is proving tough for Wenger who is now seriously under pressure to deliver success.

The thing that is most telling about this story is that Wenger has reopened the pursuit! That tells us that it could have happened a long time ago, but wenger pulled the plug for some reason!
What was it i suppose? Too expensive? wanted to high a wage packet? Wanted to see if Diaby would be back in time? Or if Arteta could continue to do the job?
Absolute joke … If this is true, it means wenger pulled out for some reason or another when we might have had time to change the result of the game yesterday … instead he didn’t even act and the rest is history.
Arsene wenger has become to powerful
At the arsenal he’s the club manager that’s all
People above should be doing the deals
Not a penny pinching economist
He needs to spot what players he wants
And let others above do the rest
Like dein used to do
Worst ever mistake letting him go
2nd worst was letting kroenke
Through the front door
Why in the hell are we only thinking of buying in August , this should all be done before the start of the season..like Chelsea, city,Munich , barca etc… Even the spuds know that if you lose 9,10,11 points on you rivals that it could make a Hugh difference at the end of the season …I’ve always been a winger supportor thought are dark days of selling are best players ,buying into the dream of the new ground etc.. But we were thin on players last season ,let along quality players , then tell the world we have money to have the selling clubs push up prices…then have a manager start the new season knowing we’re not good enough to compete in the toughest league in the world and have to play a qualifier to get into the champions league …. Surly this is really bad or stupid manament by wenger … Then the board sit back and watch this ,when a 12 year old supporter new all our problems … They keep saying its not only us who are looking for players or were only looking for quality , but were the only ones who aren’t getting players , it hasn’t stop all the other clubs from getting their business done … Smoke servants around players that would never sign for arsenal …Rooney etc …
JOKE JOKE JOKE
