The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern loved hearing Cesc Fabregas’ comments on their club’s latest transfer target, Lucas Torreira of Sampdoria. Fabregas was covering the game between Uruguay and Saudi Arabia as part of the BBC’s punditry team, where he seemed to be playing up the talents of the 22-year-old defensive midfielder.
"They [Uruguay] also have Torreira on the bench who I really like for Sampdoria, he can break the lines"

Despite the fact that Cesc Fabregas decided to make the switch from Barcelona to Chelsea, the Gunners still hold a place for him in their hearts. The Spaniard has previously claimed on Twitter that he would not think twice before returning to Arsenal in some capacity in the future, be it as a player or as a coach after his playing days. However, the fans will hope he’s right with his views on the young Torreira.
Unai Emery has made strengthening certain positions a priority this summer, with defensive midfield one of strict importance. The club has had to get by with Granit Xhaka and Mohammed Elneny filling that role over the last two seasons and frankly, they’re not good enough. Xhaka’s tendency to wander off in games has led to more than a couple of sloppy goals, whilst Elneny simply doesn’t have the quality that’s required of an Arsenal midfielder. All fingers so far have pointed to the club needing Torreira.
You can read our local Arsenal fans’ verdict on Cesc’s comments and Torreira here:
Even if it was against Saudi yesterday, but he was by far the most notable Uru after he came on. Good vision, good movement with and without the ball. Only concern is his body, he looks like a 10 year old playing with men

He did okay yesterday coming off in second half. I saw a glimpse of a little bit of his quality. I think he and Xhaka can pull it off.

Great addition to the team, Arsenal lacked players that can break through the lines in recent years making our back line not well protected.

For me he is an Arsenal player, Unai realizing our problems before his first match. While it took Wenger 22 yrs. New Arsenal

He know that Arsenal fans would love it if he said that, he’s still a gooner at heart

Cesc still staying loyal to The Arsenal but not calling him a Gunner unlike other outlets until we announce it ourselves. #AlwaysAGunner

As you can see, the fans are more than a little bit excited to see Torreira in an Arsenal shirt, whilst they also loved hearing Fabregas rave over the North London-bound midfielder.
