Arsenal were going to pay too much for this international star anyway, but the scale is unbelievable

Lemar

Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for an upturn in form when the Premier League returns this weekend after the international break.

The men from the Emirates have started in a pretty poor way this season with them playing three games and losing two of them – the most recent of which cam against Liverpool in a 4-0 defeat.

For sure, then, the Gunners need to get their act together as soon as possible with many also reeling from how poor their transfer window was, too, with them failing with a £92 million bid for Thomas Lemar.

Many, though, were of the opinion that the club would have been paying too much for the French star but it’s becoming apparent just how extreme that overspend would have been.

Indeed, as per transfermarkt, the player is only worth £21.6 million and so the Gunners really would have been paying through the nose to try and sign the winger.

Of course, Lemar is perhaps going to go for a bit more than that valuation – especially if another club comes into the fray – but he is still not worth over four times that valuation and so Arsenal need to reassess their approach for the winger if they go back in for him.

Thoughts, Reds? Let us know below!
