Looking back on 2014, Arsenal fans will most likely remember it as the year in which their trophy drought was ended with a win over Hull City at Wembley in the FA Cup Final in May.

The negatives however will be the way in which the Gunners saw their Premier League title challenge fall apart in the second half of last season whilst the first half of the 2014/15 campaign has seen them fall dramatically off the pace – despite big money additions the likes of Alexis Sanchez in the summer.

The Gunners have however been given a favourable Champions League draw for the New Year and look the best placed of all major challengers to finish the season in the top four.

And whilst 2014 has been an up and down year, there has still been some of that trademark excellent football from Arsenal – and no shortage of excellent goals.

Tomas Rosicky vs Sunderland 

For all Arsenal’s faults, on their day they are capable of playing the most attractive football of anyone in the country – and this goal proved it.

Rosicky picked the ball up on the right hand side and found Santi Cazorla in the middle of the park and just four touches later Sunderland were picking the ball out of their net.

Cazorla played it first time into Wilshere, Wilshere first time onto Giroud, and Giroud’s first time touch through found Rosicky who had continued his run from the right. Rather than panic, the Czech Republic international star coolly chipped the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper Vito Mannone to cap a wonderful team goal.

Aaron Ramsey vs Norwich City 

Aaron Ramsey’s return to fitness last season came at a crucial time as it coincided with the Gunners’ impressive run to claim the final fourth Champions League qualification spot as well as their FA Cup success.

The Welshman gave a taster of what was to come at Wembley with a stunning volley on the final day of the season at Carrow Road.

Olivier Giroud was the provider once more, picking out his midfield colleague with a pinpoint cross. Ramsey adjusted his body perfectly and sent a volley screaming into the top corner beyond John Ruddy from a tight angle.

Tomas Rosicky vs Tottenham

It doesn’t come much better for an Arsenal player than to fire a winner at White Hart Lane – especially when it is such a spectacular strike.

Tomas Rosicky produced one of the most memorable moments for Arsenal supporters in March this year, firing an unstoppable first time drive across Hugo Lloris with little more than a minute gone in the North London derby.

The Czech star strode onto the loose ball after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had attempted to run in behind and struck a superb winner that saw him written into Arsenal folklore.

Aaron Ramsey vs Galatasaray 

Moments like this are becoming more and more frequent over the course of Aaron Ramsey’s Arsenal career and his strike at Galatasaray earlier this month will go down as a contender for the goal of his career so far.

The Welshman met a loose ball on the edge of the box with an unstoppable first time strike that flew into the top corner.

His technique was of the highest order whilst the reaction to the goal of Yaya Sanogo told you everything you needed to know about just how special it was.

Aaron Ramsey vs Hull City 

There may have been some better goals over the course of 2014 for Arsenal – the Sanchez volley against Manchester City, Cazorla’s recent effort against Newcastle, and Giroud’s superb touch and finish against West Ham last season all spring to mind – but the importance of this goal means there can be only one number one spot.

Aaron Ramsey’s 109th minute winner against Hull City in May ended the Gunners’ nine-year wait for a trophy, whilst the way in which he met Giroud’s clever back heel with a superb first time finish into the bottom corner summed up just what a quality goal scoring midfielder Arsenal have on their hands.

Everyone connected with Arsenal will be hoping this is the first of many Ramsey goals that lead to silverware.
