Arsene Set To Land Respected Yet Aggressive £5M International Defender

Arsenal are determined to increase their options in the centre of defence this summer and are currently scouting Hannover 96 defender Karim Haggui. Arsene Wenger has sent scouts over to watch the Tunisian International with a view to making a £5 million move for the player.

However they also face stiff competition Paris Saint-Germain for his signature. The 27 year old has been capped over 50 times for his country and Wenger sees him as good competition for his fellow centre backs; Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Sébastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou.

The player is of good height at 6 ft 2 and is certainly aggressive enough to compete in the Premier League. Despite Arsenal’s attacking prowess Wenger feels more competition in defence will be his priority this summer. While Squillaci has performed amicably this season, Djourou is only young and Koscielny it’s fair to say has struggled since his move from FC Lorient in the summer.

With Wenger again opting out of the transfer market this January due to high prices it is felt Haggui would be his preferred cheaper option this summer. There is no doubt Haggui would welcome a move to England it just remains to be seen whether Wenger can follow up his interest with a serious offer.
