Aston Villa are ready to look into a late move for Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Two in…

Unai Emery has brought in two players in what is his first transfer window in charge at Villa Park. Full-back Alex Moreno has joined from Real Betis, while teenage forward Jhon Duran has arrived from Chicago Fire.

There could be more to come before Tuesday’s deadline, though, especially after NSWE promised the manager a ‘huge’ winter window budget and reports this week suggested he wants three more signings.

The Latest: Guendouzi next?

Football Insider shared a story on Friday morning regarding Villa and Guendouzi. They claimed that Villa are ready to ‘pounce’ when it comes to a late window move, with talks already held over a possible transfer.

Marseille value Guendouzi at £30m and Emery has even made contact with the player, explaining how he would fit into his Villa Park plans.

The Verdict: Upgrade?

Guendouzi has actually made more appearances under Emery than he has under any other manager, and you could make the argument that the Frenchman would be an upgrade on Villa’s current midfield options.

The 23-year-old, dubbed a ‘monster’ in the making by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has outperformed every Villa midfielder so far this season, as per WhoScored, with his most effective performances coming as an out-and-out central midfielder.

He would also offer plenty of versatility due to being able to play as a defensive and attacking midfielder, and you’d like to think he still has room to improve before hitting his prime, so a reunion between player and manager could make sense in the Midlands.
