Aston Villa: ‘Very good’ contract offered to Matteo Guendouzi

Aston Villa: 'Very good' contract offered to Matteo Guendouzi - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa are still in the frame to sign Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and have put a ‘very good financial offer’ to the player.

The Lowdown: Defender and attacker already in

Villa have spent around €30m (£26.4m) this month in signing full-back Alex Moreno and forward Jhon Duran. Supporters may have been expecting and hoping for more, though, with NSWE promising Unai Emery a ‘huge’ January budget back in October.

There has been speculation over a move for Guendouzi for a number of weeks, with rumours of a possible €40m (£35.2m) offer.

The Latest: Guendouzi to Villa update

Sport Witness relayed an update from L’Equipe regarding Villa and Guendouzi on Monday. They claimed that Emery is a fan of the player, who admires the 51-year-old, with the Midlanders the ‘hottest club’ in the picture to secure his services.

Villa chiefs are yet to make an offer to Marseille, although they have been in contact with Guendouzi’s representatives this month and have made a ‘very good financial offer’ to him.

The Verdict: Record move?

You’d like to think that the funds are there for a big-money signing before tomorrow’s deadline, and a move for Guendouzi could cost a club-record fee. Marseille have been holding out for €50m (£44m), a figure which would comfortably surpass Villa’s record €38.4m (£33.8m) move for Emiliano Buendia.

The 23-year-old was described as a ‘great player’ by former Hertha Berlin sporting director Arne Friedrich and has outperformed Villa midfielders Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn so far this season, as per WhoScored

Emery and Guendouzi also appear to have a good relationship during their mutual time at Arsenal, so this could be one to keep an eye on in the coming hours.
