Awful: Man United should sell these 2 big name players as soon as they can

Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that everyone levels up in the last few months of the season.

Jose Mourinho has some big decisions to make in the summer with regards to incomings and outgoings, and our regulars believe that a few players are on the edge of being shown the Old Trafford door.

Jose Mourinho needs a few players in key areas for next season if he is to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Indeed, he will certainly want to win the league in his third season at United to be deemed a success, and for that to happen he has to be his ruthless best.

While there’s no doubt of much-needed incomings into Old Trafford, the outgoings are as of yet unclear among our local Mancunians and with that in mind, our landlord has taken a closer look at two stars that should be on the transfer list come the summer window…

Ander Herrera

The firm United fan favourite has had his game time massively reduced this season due to the arrival of Nemanja Matic in the summer.

That’s likely only going to worsen next season, as it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mourinho add further depth to the midfield.

Herrera’s certainly not a bad player, but he hasn’t done anything special over the last 6 months or so to suggest that he’s ready to compete with the likes of Matic in the midfield.

He’s a decent squad player, but he’s not really of the top-tier quality that Man Utd players need to be.

Chris Smalling

Currently, there are five centre-backs all fighting for two starting spots within the team. Some have impressed this season and some haven’t been up to the level that’s expected of them so far, much to Mourinho’s frustration.

Unfortunately for Smalling, he’s a player that falls into the latter camp.

He has had peaks and troughs in his United career and he still makes many of the United faithful in the pub nervous when he’s named in the matchday squad.

For that reason, perhaps it’s time for him to move on. He just isn’t good enough.
