The Tottenham Hotspur fans were over the moon in the Transfer Tavern last night after their side recorded a 2-2 draw against Juventus in Turin.
Mauricio Pochettino took his side to the Allianz Stadium last night to face undoubtedly one of the strongest sides in Europe for the first-leg of their last-sixteen Champions League encounter. Tottenham made the worst possible start as two early goals from Gonzalo Higuain put The Old Lady in cruise control after just 9 minutes, but the Lilywhites proved they are a genuine contender for Europe’s most prestigious prize this year as they fought back to record a 2-2 draw.
There is still plenty for Spurs to do back at Wembley in three weeks time, but they will seriously fancy their chances of progressing after scoring 2 away goals against arguably the sturdiest defensive outfit in European football.
In the aftermath of proceedings, the Tottenham supporters heaped praise on plenty of their star performers, with the likes of Moussa Dembele and Christian Eriksen coming in for the highest level of admiration.
However, despite the quality of Tottenham’s performance, supporters of the North-London side and various other clubs directed some strong words of criticism towards Eric Dier (valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt). Plenty of supporters have take to Twitter to slate Dier for his perceived average performance for Spurs last night.
The role that Dier plays is certainly a no frills job that often gets overshadowed by more creative minded midfielders, so it’s no surprise that the England international has taken plenty of stick on social media.
