The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few days celebrating another win, this time against Brighton over the weekend. It was a marvellous display from the Reds, with their 5-1 win certainly a justified scoreline. As has often been the case for them this season, it was a few individual performances that were decisive for the Reds, and no player impressed more than Brazilian star Coutinho.
The 25-year-old has had a good few weeks, having regained his form after a summer of uncertainty, and he dazzled with his technical brilliance against the Seagulls. His performance has earned him unanimous praise in the Transfer Tavern, and even BBC Pundit Garth Crooks was impressed by his wondrous performance.
Placing him within his weekly Team of the Week column, Crooks has described Coutinho as a ‘genius’, before waxing lyrical about his goal.
Crooks said: “His free-kick against Brighton proved it [his genius]…Coutinho is as creative as he is instinctive”.
By shooting the ball below the jumping Brightonian wall, the Brazilian was able to deftly place the ball in the back of a net from a very tough position, and as Crooks explains, that is a testament to his quality. Most other players would have simply hoped for the best, but you get the feeling when he struck the ball that he knew exactly what he was doing.
Liverpool will be delighted that he, alongside Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, is in fine form – as Liverpool’s attack at present is unstoppable.
Landlord’s Verdict
Coutinho is now proving, as if anyone needed any more proof, just why Liverpool were so keen to hold on to him last summer.
He’s proven time and time again just how good he is, yet somehow he always manages to find a way to do something new and unique, and his goal at the weekend was evidence of that.
Klopp is a lucky manager to have a player as good as him.
