The resident Lilywhites have bemoaned their club’s transfer policy in the Transfer Tavern this week, after they missed out on the signing of Ross Barkley to their London-rivals Chelsea.
After Ross Barkley turned down Chelsea in the summer transfer window, it seemed as if the Evertonian had made a decision to join Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur, but it has recently become apparent that this assumption was far from the truth. Plenty of the fans clad in Tottenham white in the tavern had been hopeful of signing Barkley either this month or on a free transfer in the summer, and they were left to rue a missed opportunity after Chelsea confirmed his transfer to Stamford Bridge.
However, there is still plenty of time remaining in the January window for Spurs to bring some quality talent to the club in a bid to ensure they achieve qualification for the Champions League this season.
And according to reports in The Sun, Tottenham have identified Barcelona talent Andre Gomes as a transfer target for the month.
The Portuguese midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp this season, and his lack of first-team action suggests the Catalan giants will be open to offers for his services for the remainder of the January window.
A handful of the Spurs faithful have doubts about Gomes’ ability to perform in the English top-flight, but plenty of supporters are calling for Pochettino to bring the former Valencia star to North-London this month.
