Bilic needs to field this West Ham defence in the starting XI against Everton on Saturday

Wow, the West Ham punters in the Transfer Tavern really are a miserable bunch at the minute and who can blame them.

With just two wins in their last ten games and their season seemingly petering out, our landlord understands why it must be frustrating to be a West Ham fan at the moment, but has not held back in making some outrageous comments about the Irons.

He has noted that if this run of form continues, the Hammers could well find themselves in a relegation scrap come the final weeks of the season even though they currently sit nine points above the relegation zone.

With the fourth worst defence in the Premier League, it is easy to see where the problem lies for West Ham because simply put, they have been shocking at the back this season.

Whilst questions have been asked about whether Irish goalkeeper, Darren Randolph is the right man to be between the sticks for the Hammers – our resident West Ham fans have commented that he has not had great protection from his defenders this season.

Reacting to these comments, our landlord has drawn up the defence he thinks Slaven Bilic should field in a game which sees them come up against Everton and the Premier League top goal scorer, Romelu Lukaku.

Let’s see who he has gone with…..

RB: Håvard Nordtveit

With Sam Byram sent off last weekend against Sunderland, could Nordtveit get the chance he has been craving since he joined the Irons in the Summer?

Our landlord believes Bilic will potentially put the Norwegian at right back which will be a challenge for him against an Everton side who have looked strong in the final third of the pitch this season.

However, with a point to prove we could see the best of Nordtveit and our resident Hammers fans are optimistic he can do the job.

CB: Jose Fonte

It’s fair to say that the January signing from Southampton has not really made the impact everyone in the Tavern expected of him since his move to the London Stadium, and our landlord is worried about his form going into Saturday’s game with Everton.

The fixture will see Fonte line up against Romelu Lukaku and it is well known the impact that the Belgian can have on games, meaning the centre back will have to be on top of his game for this one.

CB: Winston Reid

Reid is expected to have recovered from a groin strain to take the field in this one, and our landlord feels he is very much needed within a shaky West Ham defence.

The New Zealander makes a real difference to the Hammers defence, and the West Ham fans in the Tavern could not be happier at the prospect of his return to their defence.

LB: Aaron Cresswell

As Wahbi Khazri ran riot against Arthur Masuaku last weekend, our landlord feels Bilic has no other option but to restore Aaron Cresswell to the starting line up.

Having made his England debut earlier in the season which saw him on the pitch for the last ten minutes, in which England let a two goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Spain, Cresswell has experienced a tough time with injury for most of the season – and will be looking to make an impact against Everton in this one.
