Birmingham City might have scrapped just past Championship foes Blackburn Rovers to progress to the next round of the FA Cup, however fans were far from pleased with what they saw from Alvaro Gimenez.
Pep Clotet’s side took an early advantage when Dan Crowley opened the scoring inside the first five minutes of the game, however they were pegged back with 30 minutes to go when Adam Armstrong netted from the penalty spot.
The tie looked to be heading to a replay at Ewood Park, however Jeremie Bela made sure they would not have to play an extra fixture when he hit the ball home inside stoppage time (BBC).
Whilst fans would have been pleased with progressing in the competition and potentially lining the club’s coffers with more money, some were far from happy with what they saw from Gimenez.
The Spanish striker came in for some criticism from some sections of the club’s faithful on Twitter, with many feeling he offered the team nothing with his lack of movement.
Some were even harsher with their words, as they felt he was the worst striker that they had ever witnessed play for the St. Andrew’s outfit – with a certain Marcus Bent being drawn into one comparison (three goals in 35 appearances for the club per TransferMarkt).
Here are just some of their reactions to Gimenez’s performance…
So glad Jake Salter is back now, Sunjic confidence has shot down since this poor run, Gimenez has no movement. VERY lucky win today! #bcfc

Only managed to catch the last 35 minutes of the game but I think I’ve come to the reasonable conclusion that Alvaro Gimenez is one of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen. I’d rather have a current, 36 year old, Aaron McLean up top #BCFC

Gimenez only contribution all afternoon was to boot the ball into the George car park and pick up a stupid booking #bcfc

Thoughts from the game:
Same old Lee Camp
Sunjic… erm what?
Gimenez- on a par with Marcus Bent or Wes Thomas.. painful#BCFC— Sam Fowler (@SamFowler95) January 4, 2020
A very average performance that I wouldn’t get carried away about, things to note.
Gimenez gets bullied on his own.
Montero rips full backs.
Davis was superb.
Looked defensively a bit better.
Blackburn were awful. #BCFC— (@CJoe1875) January 4, 2020
Gimenez is out of his depth #bcfc

HT thoughts. Clarke-Salter has looked great & holding defence together. Colin, Peds and Dean look shaky. Every long ball causes us problems in-behind. Sloppy going forward. But Montero/Crowley our best so far. Mags is pointless. Gimenez can’t control a football #BCFC #KRO
