This was seen as just over the market value for the centre-forward, though he was sold on after three years for a honourable £6.75m. Emile Heskey broke Birmingham City’s former transfer arrival fee, which was David Dunn’s move for £7.88m the season prior. Another great bit of business for the Blues, was the addition of defensive powerhouse midfielder, Ivan Sunjic, to their squad.

The 22-year-old Croatian international was brought in from Dinamo Zagreb for a massive £7.20m fee in the 2019-20 season and is proving his worth.

Moving on to record transfer departures for the Blues, this current 2019-20 season marked a historic moment for the club. A young Che Adams was bought by Birmingham City in the summer of 2016 as they paid Sheffield United just under £2m.

Just three years later, the 22-year-old secured his move to Premier League side Southampton for an incredible £15.03m which was 1.5x the market value for the England U20 international. Two more notable sales are Premier League stars Matthew Upson who joined West Ham United for just over £11m in 2006-07, and winger Jermaine Pennant who joined giants, Liverpool for £8.19m in the same season.

Other honorable mentions include centre-back Roger Johnson, who joined Wolverhamton Wanderers for over £7m in 2011-12 – this was a lot at the time for the 28-year-old. Craig Gardener went on to shine for Sunderland, as he left the Blues in 2011-12 for around £6m, and Cameron Jerome left in the same season for £4m.
