It looks like Sheffield United could be close to finding a solution to a position that requires more depth as recent reports suggests that a fee has been agreed for a promising young striker.
According to the Fourth Official on Twitter, Sheffield United have agreed a fee with fellow Premier League club Liverpool for Rhian Brewster. Other sides in the division like Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are also interested, but it looks like the Blades have won the race for the 20-year-old.
Liverpool have reportedly demanded around £20m for the Englishman, per Sky Sports, and want a buyback clause in the deal, so it looks like Sheffield United must have made a bid close to the asking price and may indeed have provided for the buyback clause if, as has been reported, their offer has been accepted.
It is understandable to see why Liverpool want a buyback clause on Brewster as he clearly has an eye for goal. The forward made 22 appearances on loan at Championship side Swansea City last season and scored 11 goals, whilst averaging 2.4 shots on target per game, via WhoScored.
He seems a very good prospect for the future as he won the Under-17 World Cup with England three years ago and picked up the Golden Boot in the tournament with eight goals, per Transfermarkt.
Therefore, Brewster looks like a great acquisition for the Blades, and someone young with bags of potential and an eye for goal is exactly what Sheffield United need – this was evidenced by the fact that they managed nine shots on target in their loss to Wolves, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Another striker would add some healthy competition and hopefully spark the other forwards at Bramall Lane into pushing harder to win their place in Chris Wilder’s first XI.
