lt Courtois already dispatched on loan to Atletico Madrid, and Oriol Romeu unlikely to shoulder first-team duties just yet, Chelsea have been unusually quiet in strengthening their first-team this summer.
Whilst the final touches are being put to the Romelu Lukaku deal, and he is likely to complete his transfer in the coming days, it is difficult to see him usurping either Fernando Torres or Didier Drogba as a regular start for the Blues, despite his prolific scoring record in the Belgian league. Therefore, it might suprise many that Chelsea are scouting Real Madrid maestro Angel di Maria.
With Di Maria only signing for Madrid last summer, and the Spanish giants yet to even finish paying for the player, it is highly unlikely Jose Mourinho would be willing to let the Argentine leave. Having performed well for Madrid, striking up a good understanding with Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as international teammate Gonzalo Higuain, and as such, Chelsea’s initial enquiry this summer was rejected by Madrid.
However, Footybunker is reporting that Andre Villas-Boas is ready to return with a bid of around £30M in order to bring in his man. Whilst Mourinho is likely to still be reluctant to sell to a Champions League rival, the fact he has already strengthened the left wing by bringing in Fabio Coentrao, and the midfield generally with the arrivals of Nuri Sahin, Hamit Altintop, and Jose Maria Callejon, a large enough fee may be enough to make Mourinho, and the Madrid board, let the player move on.
