Celtic dominated another season domestically whilst struggling in Europe, Rodgers will be setting about trying to improve the Hoops in non-domestic action.
Celtic have well and truly asserted their dominance in Scottish football. Two consecutive treble winning seasons has set in an unprecedented era of success in Parkhead.
The Glasgow side have begun their summer business by bringing in Odsonne Edouard in for a club record fee of £9m. Celtic have brought the striker in on a four-year deal. The 20-year-old looked a great addition on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last season. It is this kind of calibre of player Celtic must bring in to make themselves a force on the European stage.
However, whilst it’s harsh to criticise any player at a club which has just won successive trebles, there are certain players who look like dead wood at Celtic Park and need to be moved on.
With that in mind, here are three players that Celtic should show the exit door before the beginning of the season…
With just two appearances in the Scottish Premier League last season, Gamboa seems like he is wasting a space in the Celtic squad.
Not a player who is going to push the club forward on the European stage and lacking in pace, the 28-year-old Costa Rican should be sold by Celtic, or they risk losing him on a free at the end of his contract.
Without a doubt, the club need an upgrade on Gamboa to progress.
The 31 year old Irish winger struggles with injuries and does not seem quite up to the standard expected at Celtic Park.
A very composed winger in the Scottish Premier League for both Aberdeen and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Jonny Hayes is a player which suits being the star player rather than a talent amongst many.
His age is also against him, Celtic would be better off bringing in a younger prospect with more potential to improve.
Lastly, Scott Allan’s time in Glasgow is surely up.
He has not made an appearance for Celtic since the 2015/16 season. The midfielder went on successive loan spells at Dundee and Hibernian last season, it is likely a return to a club of this stature would be best for Allan’s career. Clearly, he’s a talent, but the Bhoys have moved on since his initial arrival and he should leave this summer.
