Brighton & Hove Albion: Seagulls line up summer move for James Tavernier - Brighton Transfer Rumours

Brighton are planning a summer move for Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier, according to

The report stated that the 28-year-old has been on the Seagulls’ transfer radar for some time and they are also hoping to sign his brother Marcus, who currently plays for Middlesbrough.

As per, the Amex Stadium outfit intend to pursue their interest in the Tavernier siblings whether or not they succeed in retaining their Premier League status for next season.

Rangers right-back James Tavernier boasts the experience of almost 250 games for the Ibrox club and has been a near-constant presence in Steven Gerrard’s starting line-up this season, making 45 appearances in all competitions.

The 28-year-old has been a wonderfully reliable creative outlet for the ‘Gers, racking up a highly impressive tally of 15 assists in 2019/20 – one every three games. Aside from his excellent creativity ratio, the defender also chipped in with three goals in the season just gone.

The ex-Newcastle man neglect his defensive duties, either, winning 1.6 tackles and 2.1 aerial duels per game, as well as averaging three clearances per match (as per WhoScored).

Tavernier’s reliability as an attacking outlet from right-back is exactly what Graham Potter could do with adding to his squad. Brighton’s leading assists provider this season is Leandro Trossard with four, with Pascal Gross and Lewis Dunk the only other Seagulls players to have set up more than two goals (as per TransferMarkt). Incredibly, Tavernier has one more assist on his own in 2019/20 than Brighton’s top five assists providers combined.

Also, there could be scope for a right-back addition at the Amex Stadium this summer, with Ezequiel Schelotto being linked with a move to Genoa (via Tuttomercatoweb). His departure would leave Martin Montoya as the only senior right-back in Potter’s squad.

Tavernier is rated at just £4.32m by TransferMarkt and, if Brighton can lure him south of the border, he could give the Seagulls a much-needed injection of creativity from the flanks.
