“Important” Manchester United star given 3 days to decide his future at the club

Manchester United’s dismal 2024/25 campaign ended with a rare bright moment over the weekend, as they beat Aston Villa 2-0 to close the Premier League season on a high. Goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen secured the three points, lifting Ruben Amorim’s side to a modest 15th-place finish—just enough to edge past Wolves.

Despite the win, it did little to mask what has widely been considered United’s worst modern-day season, and a major squad overhaul is now expected.

While attention has largely been on potential incomings like Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, United also face the real prospect of losing some of their key players—most notably club captain Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese international was a rare shining light during an otherwise forgettable season, scoring 19 goals and providing 20 assists across all competitions. Without his influence, relegation would have been a very real threat.

Now, United’s midfield talisman may be on his way out of Old Trafford. According to the Daily Mail, Saudi giants Al-Hilal have tabled a blockbuster offer for Fernandes—and they want an answer quickly.

The report claims Al-Hilal have offered to quadruple Fernandes’ current £280,000-a-week salary, proposing a tax-free deal worth £700,000 per week. Over three years, the total package—bonuses included—could rise to £200 million. The club are also willing to pay Manchester United a transfer fee of around £100 million.

In a bold move, Al-Hilal have reportedly issued a strict 72-hour deadline to Fernandes, labelling their proposal as a “take it or leave it” offer.

Manager Ruben Amorim, who recently described Fernandes as “important,” may now be forced to prepare for life without his captain—especially if the club accepts the financial upside in light of their ongoing budget constraints under new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, while a £100 million windfall may help United with their rebuilding efforts, the departure of Fernandes without a suitable replacement could be catastrophic. Another season of struggle—and potential relegation—would loom large.
