Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still trying to get over the 2-0 defeat to Spurs on Wednesday night.

The whole performance was dire from start to finish for the Red Devils in the bar, amidst the seven-minute cameo from Marouane Fellaini and the poor defending was a touchline disagreement between Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba. It followed the French star to be dragged off for the first time this season in such a situation.

Pogba’s performance wasn’t up there with his greatest and it summed up United’s whole match against a Spurs side who looked up for it and rampant. The Frenchman, by and large, has been one of United’s best performers this season but like some of our regulars have noticed, he also often goes missing in matches.

Mourinho wants to get the best out of Pogba but playing him in a two-man midfield is not the way to do so and if the arrival of Alexis Sanchez is going to restrict the Frenchman, then United will have serious problems on their hands. Dent To His Ego

Pogba since returning to Man United has come across as a player that is on a mantel above the rest, although as if he should be worshipped for choosing to go back to United. Having been the driving force of the team for a season and a half now, maybe his ego has got the better of him in recent months and he’s started to play the game how he sees fit.

Being hauled off against Spurs in such a big match may bring him back down to earth and realise he needs to knuckle down as he’s not bigger than the club.

The Sanchez Effect

With Sanchez coming to United, Pogba’s no longer the highest earning player in the team. This may have affected his mood and mindset on Wednesday night, as he aims to prove that he is still the big dog at Old Trafford.

Knocking down Pogba a peg or two by one of the most ruthless managers in the Premier League may go one of two ways for United. Many of the regulars will be hoping its the improvement way rather than refusing to play.
