There’s a lot to talk about for the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern right now, considering the fact they have yet to truly digest yesterday’s pulsating Old Firm as well as the fact a new manager has recently been confirmed.
Pedro Caixinha will no doubt have been impressed with the Gers’ outing against bitter rivals Celtic yesterday, though it’s fair to say the Ibrox faithful in the bar are not yet wholly convinced by the Portuguese. While he may turn out to be a masterstroke appointment in the long-run, little is known about the 46-year-old right now.
So, a parting shot from his former club Al-Gharafa (with quotes sourced in the Scottish Sun) has sparked some alarm amongst our punters. While some of the drinkers are taking it with a pinch of salt, others are reserving judgement until they see what he can bring to Glasgow.
His old employers suggest he would have been replaced at the end of the season anyway after they failed to challenge for the Qatari title.
“I can assure our supporters that the future of the club is bright, but we have to meet a number of financial obligations because we are a business”, said Head of Football Mahmoud Al Ghazal.
“Frankly, coach Caixinha’s departure was going to come at the end of the season anyway.”
“Our president, Sheikh Jassim bin Thamer Al-Thani, doesn’t believe we have the technical elements to challenge at the top of the league.
“With Caixinha, he invoked the penalty clause he had in his contract to leave and he surprised us with his desire to sign for Rangers.
“After careful consideration of the situation and his strong requests to go to the Scottish club, we decided to accept this.”
