Celtic: Brian McNally slams Celtic board’s ‘inertia & incompetence’ regarding Lennon stance

In comments recently made on Twitter, Brian McNally, the former Sunday Mirror journalist and self-confessed Celtic fan, slammed the ‘inertia & incompetence’ of Celtic’s hierarchy, claiming their backing of under-fire boss Neil Lennon is ‘alienating vast swathes’ of fans.

Following the club’s second public backing of Lennon in a little over a week, McNally took to Twitter to make his feelings clear on the current situation at the club, lambasting the board for their negligence, before stating that ‘[Dermot] Desmond, [Peter] Lawwell & co won’t ever be forgiven for this fiasco’.

McNally’s rant comes following Celtic’s run of just two wins from their past 12 fixtures, results which have seen the Bhoys dumped out of the Scottish League Cup, the Europa League and leaving them 13 points adrift of league leaders Rangers, albeit with two games in hand on their Old Firm rivals.

However, despite the fact that Lennon has overseen the club’s worst run of form since the 1994/95 season, when Tommy Burns’ side managed just two wins from 17 matches, the Celtic board have once again spoken out in support of the 49-year-old, stating:

“The board believes that Neil and his management team are best placed to turn the team’s performances around and lead us on to success. The board continues to work closely with Neil and his team to support them as they seek to do so and progress will be reviewed in the new year.”

Transfer Tavern Take

Considering the historical significance of this season for Celtic, as, should the club win the Scottish Premier League, it will be the 10th title they have won in a row, it is rather surprising to see that the board are staying on the side of Lennon, with the club so far behind Rangers in the title race.

However, in their statement, the club do suggest that Lennon’s progress ‘will be reviewed in the new year’, which, if results do not dramatically improve for, could see the 49-year-old relieved of his duties, something that would obviously please McNally.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops could make a shock move to sign this Manchester United midfielder in January, find out more here!
