Celtic: Fans fall in love with Artur Boruc all over again after club tweet

A lot of Celtic fans have been quick to praise former goalkeeper Artur Boruc after the club tweeted about his heroic performance back in 2007.

The Hoops were fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League group stage and had to do it the hard way by going through qualifiers, via Celtic FC.

They were drawn against Russian side Spartak Moscow in the third round, and it was 1-1 after the first leg. The tie eventually went to penalties after another 1-1 draw in the second leg, where the man in between the sticks for Celtic became the hero, saving a spot kick from Maksym Kalynychenko to grant the Scottish side their place in Europe for the 2007/08 season.

The 65-time Polish international enjoyed six seasons at the club, keeping 76 clean sheets in 192 appearances including nine in the Champions League (Transfermarkt) before moving to the Premier League to play for both Southampton and AFC Bournemouth.

I was there with my son and his girlfriend, her first game. I lost count of the penalties and thought there was one more to go after the save! Also remember their winger made Lee Naylor look like he was towing a caravan. Unbelievable pace. One of the best nights at paradise.
