Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in a central defender before the transfer window closes, but one name who looks like he will not be arriving at Celtic Park is Scott McKenna.
Celtic had offered Aberdeen £3.5m for the centre-half; however, their bid was turned down and the SPL champions have since cooled their interest (via BBC Sport).
Speaking on McKenna ahead of Celtic’s Europa League clash against FK Suduva, Rodgers said: “He is a young player that I like, but it was made clear Scott won’t be for sale in this window so that would end that.” (also via BBC Sport).
With central defence one of the areas of Celtic’s squad that Rodgers is so desperate to strengthen, not being able to bring £1.13m-rated (via Transfermarkt) McKenna to Celtic Park will come as a blow to the former Liverpool manager.
The 21-year-old, though, is a player who would hardly have improved Rodgers’ side and the Bhoys should now turn their attention to pursing move experienced targets.
