Journalist for the Athletic Kieran Devlin has given Celtic fans some news on their transfer strategy and a lot of the fanbase have been debating how good the club’s plans are.
It will definitely be a busy summer for the Celts, Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Kristoffer Ajer have all been linked with moves away from the club.
Meanwhile the Hoops are also planning to win ten in a row, something never done in Scottish history, so they have been linked to various incomings. Players like Shon Weissman are possible replacements (in this case for Edouard) whilst they are also looking towards the future as they are interested in 17 year-old Aaron Hickey from Hearts.
Devlin’s tweet said, “Celtic will target players they “already know,” and prioritise retaining their high-profile players for one more season unless huge offers come in.”
Arguably this isn’t a bad plan, the Celts showed the strength and depth of their squad by winning the two titles available in the campaign just gone, (the Premiership and the Betfred Cup). So if they can keep hold of the stars linked with exits whilst targeting the odd addition then their squad would be stronger.
Do you think the club has a good transfer plan in place?
Yes
No
However some fans are worried about potential replacements, Scott McKenna is seen as a replacement for Ajer, and his links have not gone down well with the Hoops, which can be seen as understandable as the fact that Ajer is linked to clubs like AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester City highlights he oozes quality, so fans will see any defender from a team lower in the same league as them as a downgrade.
Here is how some fans responded to Devlin’s post:

I hope that picture of Mckenna is incidental

Think squad will be a lot leaner. High dependency on 15/16 key players, with only a few fringe players coming in & out. Market will be hugely inflated, & if bringing in players merely like for like, eg Jozo out/ McKenna in, not worth the inflated fees. That & McKenna is rotten.

If Celtic board really want 10IAR they will get it.. Its as simple as that. Back the Manager

McKenna? Wins his share of headers but has he progressed in the last couple of years? A good battler who likes a scrap, maybe free julien to play, but hardly inspiring.

Lets hope players they “already know” stretches the whole of the UK, considering the amount of players out of contract down south. Would rather sign Ayala or Van der Hoorn on a freer than McKenna

Celtic should be going in to this window with pre winter break in their minds, not post winter break.
