Celtic: Fans were furious over Odsonne Edouard’s goal at St Mirren being disallowed

While Celtic managed to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Premiership on Boxing Day, one moment in the second half of their latest win had a lot of Hoops fans venting their frustration.

Shortly after the interval, as noted by @CelticFC on Twitter, Odsonne Edouard had a goal disallowed for offside, thus preventing the Hoops from going three goals in front as St Mirren eventually pulled a goal back in the closing stages in their 1-2 home defeat.

While the match report on Sky Sports noted that “the offside flag had been up for several seconds” before the 21-year-old finished to the net, Martin Watt of BBC Scotland felt that it was a “tight offside call”. The match report by Joe Donnelly on Celtic’s official website said that the goal was “wrongly ruled offside”.

The assistant referee’s decision denied Edouard what would have been his 16th goal of the season and his 12th in the Premiership, as well as preventing him from registering goals in successive games after he netted against Aberdeen last week. [via TransferMarkt]

These Celtic fans took to Twitter to voice their disagreement with the Frenchman’s goal being chalked off, with one feeling that the officials were keen to thwart the Hoops from winning 10 consecutive Premiership titles (they current have eight on the spin):
