Celtic: Hoops open talks with Greg Taylor

Celtic have opened talks with left-back Greg Taylor over a new Parkhead deal, according to Scott Burns of The Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Taylor sidelined

Taylor, who Neil Lennon labelled as ‘consistent’ earlier this year, was a regular under Ange Postecoglou up until suffering a shoulder injury against Ross County last month.

The 23-year-old missed just one fixture prior to that fixture but has been absent for the Hoops’ last six fixtures in all competitions as a result.

He’s since had surgery and could be out until the end of November, but it appears as if Celtic want to sort out his contract during his time on the sidelines.

The Latest: Burns’ claim

Burns shared a story on The Daily Record late on Tuesday evening, claiming Celtic have opened talks with Taylor over a new deal.

His current contract, worth £8,200-a-week, expires in 2023, and it is reported that the full-back could get a two or three-year extension and a pay rise.

The Verdict: Good news

Postecoglou relied on Taylor prior to his injury and has used the likes of Josip Juranovic, Boli Bolingoli and Adam Montgomery at left-back since.

Taylor appears to be first choice at Celtic Park, so securing his services for the long-term can only be good news. Hopefully, talks will progress nicely and by the time Taylor returns to action, he’ll have signed a new and improved deal.

In other news: Coach with 17-honours may be open to replacing Postecoglou; he’s a Celtic fan.
