Celtic: Journalist reveals what he has heard regarding the club’s January plans

Fraser Forster

In a recent discussion on The Athletic, Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin revealed what he had heard regarding the club’s January transfer plans.

Following a summer transfer window which saw the arrivals of Albian Ajeti, Vasilis Barkas and David Turnbull, as well as the loan signings of Diego Laxalt and Shane Duffy, things have not exactly gone well for Celtic so far this season.

Neil Lennon’s side are currently on a run of just two wins from their last 12 fixtures, form that has seen them fall 13 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers, crash out of the Scottish League Cup after a 2-0 home defeat to Ross County and has left them rooted to the bottom of their Europa League group.

However, despite their below-par performances, Devlin, writing on a discussion on The Athletic website, stated recently that the only name he had heard that the club are potentially looking at moving for in January is Southampton’s £4.05 million-rated ‘keeper, Fraser Foster.

He said: “The only name I’ve heard, and it’s from only one source so it’s by no means certain, is potentially going back in for Fraser Forster. I believe the club feel another short-term loan can be achieved and that, despite them feeling slighted after the goalkeeper turned down another loan in the summer, both parties could be open to the move.

“This is especially relevant given Forster hasn’t been granted either a regular first-team opportunity at Southampton or a permanent move away from the south coast.”

Transfer Tavern Take

From Devlin’s comments, it would appear, at present, as if Celtic are not going to be particularly active in the January transfer window, regardless of the club’s poor performance in the league and cups.

Whether this is because the board feel as if the squad is capable enough as it is and is simply just underperforming at present, or to do with the club’s finances, is unclear.

However, regardless of the cause, it would appear that if Celtic are to go on and win their 10th consecutive Scottish Premiership title, they will have to do so with the vast majority of the players that are already at the club.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops could make a shock move to sign this Manchester United midfielder in January, find out more here!
