One player who has not featured during these fixtures is Christopher Jullien. The centre-back has an injury which has seen him not play since the middle of September, when he picked up the issue in training.
Stephen Welsh has come in to replace him, but with the youngster very new to senior football it has been a hard void to fill.
Former Scottish international Alan Hutton has been discussing both the Frenchman and Welsh, and he believes that Welsh peformed well in the Old Firm derby. However, the club has been impacted massively by the absence of Jullien.
What Hutton had to say about Jullien’s impact at Celtic
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “Of course he’s a miss. They’ve been rock-solid with the three big centre-halves at the back.
“I think Welsh came in and did well, he’s very young, it was his debut against Rangers and I thought he came in and did his job really well.”
“However, I think you call on that experience, that know-how to get through certain games and Jullien, he’s a massive miss. If he was fit, he would play, of course.”
Has Jullien’s absence been a big blow for the Hoops?
When the 27 year-old has played this season in the Scottish Premiership, the club were undefeated. They played five games with him and picked up three clean sheets, conceded only two goals and won four, (Transfermarkt). He also picked up a goal and an assist during these fixtures.
The player definitely has a big impact on the squad, as Chris Sutton said in the past that ‘He has a presence on the pitch‘, whilst Neil Lennon praised him calling him ‘excellent‘. With him missing, the Bhoys have conceded four goals, and lost to both Glasgow Rangers and AC Milan (Transfermarkt).
Lennon simply has to find a solution whilst Jullien is injured, even if it means altering his system to help take some pressure of Welsh as he acclimatises to first-team football at Parkhead.
