Celtic icon Frank McAvennie has provided his verdict as to why he thinks manager Neil Lennon is still at Parkhead.
One reason on Lennon’s mind?
The Irish tactician has faced huge protests from supporters who want him to be sacked on the back of what has a woeful campaign for the Bhoys.
Lennon’s side are currently 23 points behind arch-rivals Rangers with three games in hand after an array of mediocre performances, not to mention the controversy that was stirred up on the back of their warm-weather training camp in Dubai.
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie believes that financial reasons are the key factor to him staying in Glasgow.
“Listen, Lenny is not going to quit,” he said. “He is not going to walk away from all the money. If Celtic do not want to sack him then that is fine, he is going to stay there.
“I feel for him though, I am worried about his legacy. He is such an icon at the club and I do not want to see him going down this road.
“We keep hoping he is going to turn it around but I do not think that team is good enough.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Lennon has been upset by the way certain aspects of the media have treated him and these comments from McAvennie may wind him up even more.
Let’s not forget how long Lennon has been at the club, as a player and as a coach, We are pretty sure that he will always have Celtic close to his heart, and will take no enjoyment in the situation that he finds himself in.
Time will tell whether Lennon will still be in charge, come the end of the season, but McAvennie seems to think that the Hoops boss won’t resign, so Celtic may have to give him the sack if they do want to make a change.
