Celtic transfer chief Nick Hammond is in a battle to keep his job at Parkhead with huge changes behind-the-scenes on the horizon, according to reports.
Hammond on the brink?
Football Insider revealed that multiple off the field officials could be facing the chop as internal investigations are set to begin as to how this season has gone so wrong for them.
They added that Hammond’s position is believed to be under the biggest threat having joined the club as director of football operations in October, following his consultancy role in the summer.
Celtic are currently 21 points behind their arch-rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table after their 1-0 defeat against them before their controversial trip to Dubai – irrespective of lockdown measures currently imposed in Scotland.
On their return, 13 players had to go into self-isolation with injured star Christopher Jullien also testing positive. This meant that Neil Lennon had to put out a threadbare squad during their 1-1 draw against Hibernian.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Those involved with how Celtic have gone about things this season have no-one to blame but themselves.
Hammond can have no complaints if his position is deemed untenable by Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell. The signings of both Vasilis Barkas and Shane Duffy have been hugely underwhelming and both players have under-performed – Barkas for a £4.5m fee.
With more pressure being heaped on the club week after week, it would be a sensible move for Celtic to make drastic changes at the end of this forgettable season and start afresh in the next campaign.
