Celtic: Peter Lawwell receives brutal two-word response to Dubai apology

Celtic: Peter Lawwell receives brutal two-word response to Dubai apology - Celtic News

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has received a brutal reaction from the famous Green Brigade supporters groups after apologising for the club’s decision to travel to a training camp in Dubai, with them simply dubbing him ‘Comical Lawli’, a play on words of the ‘Comical Ali’ nickname that was given to Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, a former Iraqi diplomat and politician, who was accused of downplaying incidents during the conflicts in the Middle East.

Green Brigade reacts

It has been a tough week for the Bhoys. On the back of their 1-0 defeat to Rangers, Neil Lennon’s side chose to go off to the Middle East to get some warm weather training for the players.

This decision received widespread criticism with Scotland currently in full lockdown – even First Minister Nicola Sturgeon voiced her disapproval and ensured that she would investigate the matter further.

There's no way you can name all ten obscure Celtic players! First up, who is this?

After initially defending the club’s decision, Celtic performed an unexpected U-turn after 13 other players were forced to self-isolate after injured star Christopher Jullien tested positive for coronavirus.

This led to a statement being released, along with a video of Lawwell apologising and admitting that the club had made a mistake – but little sympathy came his way as North Curve Celtic sent a brutal response on Twitter.

Transfer Tavern Verdict

It’s been a long while since we’ve seen such a divide between the club’s supporters and the board – and Lawwell is clearly trying to ease any tensions, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much to convince the Green Brigade.

This is the first sighting of accountability from the Celtic board this season after everything that has gone wrong and Lawwell did the right thing, in the end, by apologising for the decision that the club had made to travel to Dubai.

The next step that the club should take, one that will hopefully impress the Parkhead faithful, is to look to the future by carrying out their review as promised and putting measures in place to avoid such an incident occurring again.
