Lennon and his ‘unwritable’ ship
The Irish tactician is coming under intense scrutiny after a poor start to the 2020/21 campaign. The Bhoys are out of the Europa League and are 13 points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership standings.
Calls have been made by segments of the Parkhead faithful for Lennon to be sacked, with fan groups congregating outside of Celtic Park with banners saying “save the 10.”
Speaking to talkSPORT before yesterday’s Europa League tie against Lille, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan hopes that Lennon can turn his fortunes around, but cannot see it happening.
“I fear they will in the end,” he said. “But of course that will be superseded by how well Celtic perform.
“I think Neil is on very icy ground, and I think there’s an element of the Scottish board pushing back and saying we will not be dictated to by a bunch of thugs.
“I fear that he’s got to do quite a lot to get this ship writed and it may be unwritable. But you know what, these are the odds like Neil Lennon should want to have to face – they should really want to face adversity and ram it down people’s throats, and I hope he does.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
While the outlook for Lennon is bleak at this moment in time, there is a huge opportunity for his team to get a decent run of results under his belt.
Their next three games are all home matches against the likes of Kilmarnock, Hearts and Ross County, with a trip to Hamilton and finishing the year hosting Dundee United – before they head to Ibrox to face Rangers.
If there is a time for Lennon to save his Celtic job – going on a winning streak can do just that.
