In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie has expressed his fears over Celtic's move for Eddie Howe collapsing.

Reports broke out at the start of last month suggesting that Howe was close to becoming Celtic's new manager.

However, things went a bit cold for a long period and Hendrie, despite some outlets once again claiming that the deal to bring Howe to Celtic is nearly done, fears that this is just not going to happen.

Speaking exclusively to TT about the Glasgow club's pursuit of the ex-Bournemouth boss, the Sky Sports pundit said:

"When someone does drag their feet it's almost like they're waiting for something else. And that seems to be the way for me with Eddie Howe at this moment of time.

"It's whether he wants to try and get himself into the Premier League or he wants to go and fulfil a dream up in Scotland at Celtic. At this moment in time, I really can't see it happening."

If Celtic do end up failing to lure Howe to Celtic Park, they do seem to have a couple of contingency plans in place.

One of those looks to be former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, who has been out of work since being sacked by the Bundesliga giants just before the start of the new year. According to Football Insider, he has already been interviewed for the position.
