Celtic pundit Frank McAvennie has been reacting to an update regarding Hoops forward Albian Ajeti, as per Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Ajeti surplus to requirements

A Celtic source informed Football Insider over the weekend that the Swiss striker is free to find a new club in the summer as he is not in Ange Postecoglou’s future plans.

The 25-year-old, who cost £4.5m from West Ham, has made just six starts all season and had been missing since December due to a hamstring injury.

He recently returned to the bench against St Mirren, with reports suggesting that a loan move away is more likely than a permanent exit.

The Latest: McAvennie reacts

McAvennie was talking to Football Insider regarding the Swiss striker. He said it’s ‘unbelievable’ that the 25-year-old is still getting paid in Glasgow and believes that he should have left the club in January.

The one-time Parkhead forward fumed:

“Don’t get me started on Ajeti.

“Oh my god, it’s unbelievable he is still taking money from the club.

“There are some players who aren’t playing who will look to move.

“Ajeti just sits on the bench with a big coat on not doing anything. He was doing it the other night.

“He’s not going to play, we know this. There are at least three people ahead of him.

“He should have gone in January but I’m not surprised no offers came in.

“I’m not even sure why he’s making the bench on occasion.”

The Verdict: Costly mistake

It’s safe to say that Ajeti won’t go down as a Celtic legend, and his £4.5m move to the club has been a poor decision.

He has scored just nine times in 48 appearances for the Hoops and doesn’t appear to fit into Postecoglou’s pressing system, with the manager signing a number of strikers during his two transfer windows in charge.

Celtic will be hoping that they can get his £18,000-a-week wage off the books in the summer, with Ajeti still having more than two years remaining on his current contract.
