Finance expert Kieran Maguire has been reacting to Celtic’s interim report for the final six months of 2021, as per Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Solid numbers

Celtic shared their figures on their official Twitter channel earlier this month, with a link to the corresponding article on their club website.

The interim figures showcased a pre-tax profit of £27.6m for the final six months of 2021, while revenue totalled £52.9m, a £12.2m (29%) increase on the same period last year.

Those figures were helped due to the sales of Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer to Crystal Palace and Brentford respectively, pocketing the Hoops just shy of £29m.

The Latest: Maguire’s comments

Maguire, who also contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to Football Insider on Thursday afternoon regarding Celtic’s financial numbers for the second half of 2021.

The finance expert described the figures as ‘very impressive’ and added that Hoops officials have executed their business plan to ‘perfection’, saying:

“Very impressive results all round.

“It shows the importance of matchday income, which has been as high as 50 per cent of total revenue in previous years.

“There has been reasonably good cost control as well. Over the course of the last decade, they have had in excess of £130m from player sales.

“Player development and selling is part of the Celtic business plan. They have executed that to perfection and this is evidence to back that up.”

The Verdict: Good news

Celtic bought Edouard for £9.27m and paid only £540,000 for Ajer and ended up making healthy profits on both players last year.

The financial results are clearly good for supporters to see, especially with the playing squad arguably getting stronger under Ange Postecoglou's leadership.

The Celtic manager has made 14 permanent additions since arriving at Parkhead, at a moderate cost of £23.86m, so the club appears to be in a healthy position both on and off the pitch judging by the recent financial results.
