Celtic have agreed personal terms with Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Shaw in line for a move to Parkhead next summer, according to reports.
Shaw to Parkhead drawing closer?
But the Parkhead club have made great strides concerning getting their man, as Football Insider revealed that an agreement is close to bring the “rising star” to Glasgow in time for the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
This doesn’t mean that the deal is confirmed, but if it went through, the central midfielder would set back the Glasgow club just £300,000 due to the cross-border rules currently in place.
Shaw had been given the opportunity to play under former manager Tony Pulis before he was dismissed from the Wednesday hot seat, accumulating nine appearances in the Championship.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
It is wise for Celtic to plan for the future, and the signing of Shaw would represent exactly that. Football Insider point to his versatility – he can play in midfield or defence – and he would give Neil Lennon or a new manager plenty of options.
However, while this is good news for the club, it may leave some supporters scratching their heads, with there being more pressing issues in the short-term.
With Christopher Jullien out for a significant amount of time due to a knee injury, segments of the Parkhead faithful would appreciate signing a centre-back much more.
