Former Celtic star Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on midfielder Mohamed Elyounoussi and believes that Neil Lennon will sign him permanently.
Elyounoussi to stay at Parkhead?
The 26-year-old has been one of the Hoops’ shining lights of the 2020/21 campaign despite having not got off to the start that the team will have wanted.
Elyounoussi has three goals to his name in three appearances in Europe, as well as one goal and one assist from eight Premiership starts (Whoscored), but Celtic find themselves nine points behind arch-rivals Rangers in the standings (via Sky Sports).
Speaking with Football Insider, McAvennie gushed over Elyounoussi’s recent performances and believes that Celtic will make his stay a permanent one – albeit expensive.
“I think Elyounossi is showing his worth,” he said. “When he came people didn’t like him and that sort of stuff but I think he’s done really well.
“I’m delighted with him on the pitch and I think he’s going to cost us a lot of money to keep next year, which could happen. He’s here for this year so let’s just enjoy him.
“I think him and Laxalt are getting a wee bit of an understanding going. He comes inside and lets Laxalt go down the line. It’s great and it’s a good balance to have.”
Transfer Tavern take
The Norwegian winger needs to keep doing what he is doing. Having only made nine starts for the Saints the season before he arrived at Parkhead, it could be an indication that his future is not on the South Coast of England, but instead with the green half of Glasgow.
The season is still young and Elyounoussi has plenty of time to keep his consistent run of form going, or even better, improve it.
