Swansea City: Fans love club legend being appointed to new role

Swansea City fans have expressed their delight on Twitter after seeing that club legend Leon Britton has a new role at the club.

Britton, now 36, will return to the club as a sporting director. While Swansea City’s website does not clarify exactly what this role will entail, it is likely to mean that he will be involved within the recruitment at the club as well as be a part of the football strategy at senior and academy level, according to BBC Sport.

The former midfielder has had some ride at the club. After joining Swansea initially on loan in 2002 from West Ham, he made the deal permanent at the end of that season and went on to play for over 16 years at the club, totalling an incredible 536 appearances.

According to Swansea’s club website, Britton had been appointed last season as an advisor to the board by Trevor Birch, and was “heavily involved” in the recruitment of new coach Steve Cooper, along with new head of recruitment Andy Scott.

It’s been an extremely impressive start for Swansea this season, with the club currently sitting at the top of the Championship, winning five games and drawing one.

This was just another bit of good news for the Welsh side, whose fans were delighted to see one of their legends take an important role at the club.
