Charlton: Fans relive 2019 play-off win against Doncaster

This time last year, Charlton Athletic fans were celebrating a play-off semi-final win against Doncaster Rovers at The Valley.

The Addicks certainly experienced a night to remember during their second meeting with Doncaster in the 2019 League One play-offs (via BBC Sport). It wasn’t without its twists and turns, as Charlton originally looked comfortable with one foot through the door to the final in Wembley. However, Rovers came out fighting and forced a 3-1 aggregate score level, demanding extra time.

Doncaster almost clinched the win in the 100th minute, but an immediate response from the home side sent the game to spot kicks. The Addicks went on to win through penalties after a stomach-churning shootout and prepared to face Sunderland on the grand stage. A campaign of dreams saw Charlton win 2-1 in the final and gain their promotion to the Championship (via BBC Sport).

Fans have flocked to a tweet posted by the club to relive the celebrations that day at The Valley. One supporter however has pointed out ‘the difference a year makes’ in terms of team standard as they are currently struggling in the Championship.
