No matter who you support in the Transfer Tavern, it seems Manchester United’s attempts to conquer all before them will have wide-ranging effects on the Premier League as a whole. Having broken the world record to land Paul Pogba in the summer just gone, the Red Devils are once again linked with a mega-money move. 

Atletico Madrid superstar Antonie Griezmann has been touted as a potential marquee arrival at Old Trafford, in a deal that could reportedly cost the club €100m. While it would be easy for our punters to wax poetic about the complexion of United’s side with the 25-year-old in it, some of the deeper thinkers propping up the bar have been discussing the potential knock-on effects a deal of that magnitude would have.

Pogba’s return to the Theatre of Dreams saw Juventus raid the likes of Roma and Napoli over in Serie A, though perhaps Los Rojiblancos would cast their eyes over this way, which could, in turn, see a flurry of activity throughout the Premier League.

So, with that in mind, here’s how Chelsea and Everton could feel the effects of Griezmann’s potential move to Man United.

Chelsea: Lose Diego Costa

Much has been made about Diego Costa’s future in SW6 of late, despite his stunning form for the Blues under Antonio Conte. Talk of a return to former club Atletico Madrid, as well as a move to China, has been prevalent for a while now and surely the money potentially received for Griezmann could help the Spaniards afford him.

Chelsea: Sign Everton’s Lukaku

With so much speculation surrounding Costa’s future, the Blues themselves have obviously been linked with potential replacements going forward. So, it was little surprise to see Everton striker Romelu Lukaku touted for a potential return to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian is one of the most promising young strikers in Europe and has already proved wonderfully lethal in the Premier League at Goodison Park. In many ways, he already seems like Costa’s heir-apparent.

Everton: Money, Money, Money

Right now, the Toffees are the closest challengers to a top-six that has never looked so strong. Ronald Koeman’s side trail Man United by seven points, though any money they receive for Lukaku will surely afford the Dutchman funds to build the foundation of a new side.

Backed by big investment as it is, the Merseysiders could be major players in the transfer market in this case.
