Chelsea believe they are close to big target as Conte’s plans gather place

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a very busy close to the window as Antonio Conte looks to get his squad ready for a much busier campaign over the coming months.

While the Blues in our bar have been happy with the players brought into the club this summer, our west London locals believe their popular Italian coach needs more options for life back in the Champions League.

To that end, reports from the Daily Mirror have gone down rather well today. They claim the Premier League champions believe they are close to landing Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente before the end of the window.

The Spaniard has been touted as a target at Stamford Bridge for a while now, having worked with Conte before, though a bid to bring him to the club back in January is understood to have been snubbed.

However, Chelsea reportedly believe a £15m bid would be accepted for the 32-year-old, much to the delight of the punters propping up our bar.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Llorente would be an excellent back-up for Alvaro Morata and is proven in the Premier League. So, though £15m may seem a tad expensive for a 32-year-old, the Spaniard certainly has the tools to succeed.

He’d help Morata bed in, while giving the Blues a new dynamic up front.
