Last night, Ruben Loftus-Cheek made his highly-anticipated return for the Chelsea U23’s and plenty of Chelsea fans took to social media to welcome him back.
The academy graduated managed a full 90 minutes for the development squad, taking another major step towards proving his full match fitness and making his first appearance of the season for the senior squad.
Indeed, he demonstrated glimpses of his ability throughout the game as he came close to scoring with a powerful header in the final 15 minutes of the second half. Luke McCormick sealed the 1-0 win against Everton with a converted penalty after Loftus-Cheek drew a foul in the box (via the club’s official website).
Following an electric start to his Chelsea career that saw him earn a call-up to the national team, Loftus-Cheek suffered a nasty heel injury in a post-season friendly in Boston last May (Independent). The 24-year-old made 24 appearances for the Blues during the 2018/2019 season, with the majority of those via substitution, netting 6 goals and creating 2 assists per WhoScored.com.

With Chelsea impeded by a string of first-team injuries to the likes of N’Golo Kante, many Blues fans will be praying Ruben can play a vital part in the race for the top four.
If anyone can bounce back from a career ending injury, it’s RLC. He’s destined to make it at Chelsea despite everything he’s faced. https://t.co/7yMzuJThr3
