Chelsea Chase Classy £10M Centre-Half

Edin Dzeko may have already have left Wolfsburg for a ‘bigger’ Premier League club. However, he may well not be the only one that will be out of the VW City by the end of the month.

Danish wunderkind, Simon Kjaer, who joined from Palermo just last summer for over £10m, is highly on Chelsea’s radar.

Italian Sports press behemoth, La Gazzetta dello Sport, ran a story highlighting their chase for David Luiz. However, within that story they announced Chelsea’s intention to chase Kjaer instead, should Benfica continue to hold out for too much.

Simon Kjaer would most certainly be interested in a move himself. Despite his form in the World Cup and big money summer move, Kjaer has had trouble cementing his place at the heart of McClaren’s struggling Wolfsburg defence, with Arne Friedrich, Andrea Barzagli and Alexander Madlung all at the club with him.

Therefore, were Chelsea to be forced up as high as the £30m that it is rumoured that Benfica want for David Luiz, which is over twice what McClaren paid for the 21-year old Kjaer, then Simon Kjaer may well be the better option for the West London club.

Kjaer is younger than Luiz, has just as much potential and will be a considerable amount cheaper too. Yes, so he may not be in the first team right now, but they are a bunch of class centre-halves that he is behind and a move to England may well give him the perfect new lease of life to kick on his development.
