Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited by rumours that suggest they are looking to set a new transfer record and secure a major arrival.
The Daily Mail state Blues owner Roman Abramovich remains extremely keen on Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and will pay whatever it takes to secure the French international.
Russian boss Abramovich is firmly of the belief that a marquee signing is needed to provide a boost to his underperforming side, which sit 15th in the Premier League, and is happy to pay Griezmann’s £47m release clause.
That figure in itself wouldn’t break a transfer record, with Chelsea’s most expensive addition being the £50m purchase of Fernando Torres, but Arsenal’s interest in the French forward could drive the price-up.
Chelsea could possess a major playing card in the form of Diego Costa, who is happy to return to Spain as he misses his friends and former team-mates in Atletico- whilst it’s claimed he came close to requesting a return this summer.
Chelsea fans, would swapping Costa for Griezmann be a good move? Let us know in the comments below!
