Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has joined Sheffield United on loan for the full 2020/21 season.
The decision comes as part of another move in Frank Lampard’s mission to develop the club’s young rising stars. Ampadu will gain valuable Premier League experience whilst under Chris Wilder ahead of what could be a promising future at Stamford Bridge.

The Wales international recently spoke with the manager about this exact idea. Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the teenager revealed that Lampard has a lot of faith in his ability.
“I respect him a lot, what he has done in the game and him being the Chelsea manager,” Ampadu said. “So when we had the conversation, he expressed the importance of playing games, which I expressed to him as well because in the last couple of seasons I had not played a lot.”
Indeed, the defender spent last season on loan with RB Leipzig, but only managed to make a total of seven appearances across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). Similarly, the previous campaign was made up of just 12 games for Chelsea across different age levels.

“He said that he felt this was a good option,” Ampadu continued. “He gave me the confidence believing in this place. He said he wants to see me play games in the Premier League, so hopefully that what’s I can do.”
Despite only being 19, the centre-back is already valued at £8.1million. He has made 12 senior appearances for Chelsea so far, including his FA Cup and Europa League experiences alongside a Premier League cameo debut back in 2017.
